Merseyside Music Adventure Days
Aims
Merseyside Music Adventure Days (MMAD) cross-curricular workshops are designed to support topics in a variety of subjects [History, English, Geography, PSHE, etc.] by exploring themes through musical metaphor, song writing and instrumental composition. The sessions offer a range of creative strategies to enhance and enliven the learning experience and to help the children create their own musical interpretations of the world.
Philosophy
Music is unique among the major art forms, in that it is the only one that controls time in such a precise way. This has a marked effect in focusing the mind. Developing the reaction-timing of a musician fosters a high degree of physical and mental control as a transferable skill.
Music can carry meaning imported from another sphere of thought in the form of metaphor. This makes it a powerful tool in education Text and music for a song can be created, or an instrumental piece can be composed, about almost anything and when that process has taken place, the pupils have absorbed a far greater volume of detail, at a deeper level of understanding, than if they had only heard, read or written about it. The creation, followed by re-creation in performance, of the transformed material makes them active participants in their own learning.
